I've been around in the production DBA world for a bit myself - I know what it's like to keep airline reservation systems, nuclear installations, online banking systems, internet gaming systems up and running, around the clock. I'm sure you'll agree, that for a DBA running a production system, database stability is of paramount importance, both for the company whose business relies upon it, and for the DBA, so that he or she can sleep easily and not expect to be woken up in the middle of the night to fix some problem or other, or restart a crashed database.ĭo you agree with that, Tom? - you're a well-respected Oracle expert. Maybe we aren't talking about exactly the same things, so I will share my observations. You say "Initial releases are *not* less stable - with that I very much disagree."
